How Long Does Xeomin Last?

Posted: 29 Feb 2020 09:00 PM PST

At Le Beau Visage Medical Spa in Frisco, TX, we pride ourselves in only offering our clients the safest, most effective aesthetic treatments. In response to the common problem of hyperactive muscles, we offer Xeomin, a neuromodulator that stands far above the rest. Keep reading to learn how long this treatment lasts and much, much more.

How Long Do the Results of Xeomin Last?

The durability of results depends on several factors, including just how dynamic your facial muscles actually are. Your skin health also plays a role in the durability of results. The most important thing for you to consider, though, is that the results last around four to six months.

This is in stark contrast to Botox and Dysport, which only last around two to four months, because there is no complexing protein. Think of the active protein in these treatments as the pit of a peach. The skin and flesh of the peach are complexing proteins. Xeomin injections feature only the pit (active protein). Botox and Dysport include the pit and the useless other parts.

Will I Build Up an Immunity to This Treatment?

If we had to pick the most compelling benefit of this treatment, we’d have to say that it is how long this treatment remains effective. The primary disadvantage of Botox is that your immune system becomes more efficient at fighting against the toxin that is Botox’s active ingredient, Botulinum toxin A. Botox treatments only remain effective for around five years.

You will need repeated Xeomin treatments to combat the continuing effects of aging. However, this treatment will remain effective, treatment after treatment, for the rest of your life. This is because there are no complexing proteins for your body to build up an immunity to.

How Long Does Each Treatment Session Take?

One of the most compelling benefits of Xeomin is how short the treatment is. The duration of your treatment will depend on the type and severity of the condition you are trying to treat, how many conditions you are trying to treat, the size of the area you are treating, and the number of areas you are treating.

However, on average, treating each area takes only three to five minutes. Therefore, if you are addressing three areas of concern–like your forehead, outer mouth area, and inner mouth area–your session may take between nine and 15 minutes.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

Before your treatment starts, we will sterilize the treatment sites with an alcohol-based cleanser. This mitigates the risk of infection. Next, we will clearly mark the injection points. Finally, we inject the appropriate doses into the clearly marked points on your skin. The depth at which we make the injections depends on your facial structure and needs.

Is Treatment Painful?

Another incredible benefit of this treatment is it is not painful at all. The needle used is so fine that most of our clients don’t request a topical numbing cream or ice applied to the treatment area unless they are receiving a neuromodulator lip augmentation. You will feel the extremely fine needle penetrate your skin. However, you will feel no pain or discomfort.

If you are concerned about feeling the needle penetrate your skin, please let us know during your initial consultation. We are more than happy to accommodate your personal comfort level.

How Can I Extend the Results of My Treatment?

To extend the results of your treatment, take care of your skin health. The most important thing you can do for your skin health is drinking at least half a gallon of water daily. If you lead a particularly active lifestyle, try to drink closer to a gallon of water daily.

The next most important thing you can do for your skin health is wearing sunscreen. If you have little melanin in your skin, wear at least a broad-spectrum SPF 55 sunscreen and reapply every four hours. People with lots of melanin can protect their skin health by wearing at least a broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen.

When Will I See the Results of Treatment?

This is yet another time other neuromodulator treatments fail to pass muster. While you must wait between 10 and 14 days to see the final results of other neuromodulator treatments, you only need to wait 24 to 72 hours to see the final results of this neuromodulator treatment. Due to the speed of results, you get an extra 2.5 months out of this treatment.

How Many Sessions Will I Need to See My Desired Results?

During your initial consultation, we will review the structure of your face, as well as your aesthetic goals, to help you determine how many sessions you will need to achieve your desired aesthetic.

On average, our clients need 20 units injected into five strategic points per treatment area. For instance, if you are treating frown lines, you may receive eight injections between the eyebrows and a dozen injections across three points above the eyebrows. Nearly all of our clients who receive this dose require only one session to achieve their goals.

How Should I Prepare for Treatment?

If you have naturally thin blood, it is very important that you avoid taking any medications or supplements that can thin your blood in the week leading up to your treatment. For example, medications that can thin your blood include corticosteroids, MAOIs, and NSAIDs. Nutritional supplements that can thin your blood include vitamins C, E and K and fatty acids.

You should also avoid taking garlic supplements in the seven days leading up to your treatment. If you have naturally thin blood, you should take Arnica supplements as directed on the bottle starting on the day before your treatment.

How Long Does the Recovery Process Last?

There isn’t much of a recovery process after treatment. You are free to return to work, school, or whatever leisure activities are scheduled for the day. However, to ensure smooth, flawless results, you’ll want to avoid rubbing or scratching the treated areas for 24 hours. Contrary to popular belief, you are free to lie down and move your face as you please.

In fact, each client is encouraged to put his or her face through its full range of motions. For instance, if you’re treating frown lines, it’s okay to frown. If you’re treating smile lines, it’s okay to smile as largely as you’d like. The only thing you should avoid is heat-based aesthetic treatments that will slow this protein’s binding speed.

Is it Okay to Wear Makeup After Treatment?

It is absolutely okay to apply makeup immediately after treatment. Just be sure that you remove your makeup gently before you go to bed. This means that you should not scrub your face aggressively to remove your makeup. Moreover, you must be sure to use a facial cleanser that will be gentle on your skin.

What Areas Can Be Treated With This Neurotoxin?

This neurotoxin can address any cosmetic or medical concern caused by muscle hyperactivity. The most common areas targeted for treatment are the vertical forehead lines, upper forehead lines, crow’s feet, chin wrinkles, bands of neck fat, and nose lines. However, it may also be used to treat issues around the mouth, such as smile lines, smoker’s lines, and laugh lines.

Vertical Forehead Lines

Vertical forehead lines are forehead lines that deepen when you furrow your eyebrows. These lines are also known as frown lines or glabellar lines. To treat these lines, we will inject the neurotoxin along and above your brow line.

Upper Forehead Lines

Upper forehead lines are deep folds that occur across the top of your forehead horizontally. These deep folds are the natural result of years of raising your eyebrows. To address these lines, we will inject the neurotoxin across the front of your forehead where the lines are the deepest and most prominent. Often, vertical and upper forehead lines can be treated together.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are the moderate-to-severe wrinkles that start at the sides of your eyes and spread and stretch up towards your hairline. These deep wrinkles form from years of squinting into bright lights. They are most often worsened by squinting. However, they can also deepen when you smile. To treat these wrinkles, we administer treatment to the sides of the eyes.

Other Cosmetic Issues

This neurotoxin may also be used to treat smile lines around the outer corners of your mouth, deep nasolabial folds running from your mouth to your nose and deep bands of neck fat exacerbated by hyperactive neck muscles. Treating these necklines will make your chin look thinner and make your jawline look more masculine or feminine.

Finally, this treatment is often used as a non-invasive brow lift. Rather than tightening and lifting sagging skin, it tightens and lifts the underlying sagging muscles. The results of treatment for this purpose last for up to a year because the forehead and eyebrow regions are typically less dynamic than other parts of your face.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

The only way to know for sure if this is the right treatment for you is for you to come in for an initial consultation. In general, we look for adults who are concerned about the appearance of moderate-to-severe wrinkles and folds that worsen when their facial muscles move. These adults have realistic expectations about the results.

They understand that even if they are in their 20s or 30s, this treatment will not make them look like an adolescent again. However, it will make their skin look around five years younger, The best candidate for this treatment doesn’t just want to use a neuromodulator treatment to save time and money. They want the most affordable, comfortable treatment available.

Will This Treatment Work for Me if Botox Doesn’t?

Yes! In fact, the best candidates for this treatment are those who previously found success in Botox or Dysport but are no longer achieving their desired aesthetic. The fact that other neuromodulators worked for you in the past means that your aesthetic concerns are caused by muscle hyperactivity.

The fact that those treatments stopped lasting as long, stopped working at all, or took longer to take effect means that your immune system has built up an immunity to the complexing proteins. Together, all of this means that this treatment will work for you quickly, provide dramatic results, and last up to half a year for the rest of your life.
