Find Out When Salons are Reopening Across Canada Posted: 13 May 2020 07:04 AM PDT As COVID-19 cases across Canada continue to drop, we're all slowly beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. More and more provinces are beginning to loosen their restrictions on non-essential businesses, here's when salons and barbershops are permitted to reopen: Manitoba:Salons officially re-opened on May 4 as part of phase one of the province's reopening plan, which also includes non-urgent surgery and diagnostic procedures, therapeutic and health care services, retail businesses, restaurants (patio and walk-up), outdoor recreation and campgrounds. Updated salon health regulations include: Pre-screening clients before booking appointments, staggering appointments to allow physical distancing, having a single point of entry, keeping workstations two metres apart, sanitizing equipment between every appointment, along with many others. Click here for their full health guidelines Alberta:On May 14, retail businesses, market vendors, personal services (including hair salons and barbershops), medical procedures, restaurants and bars (at 50 per cent capacity), public and outdoor facilities, daycares, seasonal programming and post-secondary institutions will resume with certain restrictions. Updated salon health regulations include: Maintaining a distance of 2 metres, removing non-essential high-touch items like magazines, toys and coffee stations, asking clients to wait or in vehicles and text when they're ready to ensure there is no crowding, no blow drying unless both the stylists and client wear masks, along with many others. Click here for their full health guidelines Saskatchewan:Hairstylists and barbers are included in second stage of the province's reopening plan, which will be launched on May 19. Other services include retail and other registered medical specialists including acupuncturists and massage therapists. Updated salon health regulations include: Asking clients to attend their appointment without any guests and apply sanitizer as they come in and when they leave, removing testers in the retail area and modifying the layout to promote physical distancing, commonly touched surfaces should be disinfected regularly, along with many others. Click here for their full health guidelines British Columbia:Starting in mid-May and moving onwards, the provincial government will be reinstating elective surgeries and other medical services, the retail sector, hair salons and barbershops and other personal services, public institutions such as museums and galleries, office-bases work sites, outdoor spaces and child care programs. Click here for their provincial health guidelines Prince Edward Island:On May 22, a ban will be lifted on personal services, which will include hair salons and barbershops, retail stores, greenhouses and nurseries, remaining repair services, car washes and bottle depots. Click here for their provincial health guidelines New Brunswick:Once the province experiences two to four weeks without a new wave, the provincial government is prepared to reopen hair salons and barbershops, along with remaining health services, churches, fitness facilities and any other close-contact businesses. On May 1: Nova Scotia lifted certain restrictions during the first weekend of May, including public parks and trails, garden centres and nurseries, and outdoor activities such as fishing, golfing, boating and RV camping. Social distancing rules of keeping two metres apart and not congregating with groups larger than five individuals. On May 4, the provincial government lifted restrictions on garden centres and nurseries, outdoor construction and maintenance workers, car washes, car dealerships, golf courses and marinas. On May 4, the provincial government lifted restrictions on retail businesses outside of Montreal, along with other activities to anyone providing goods or services required for retail businesses. On May 11, Newfoundland launched their fourth level which includes lifting a ban on low-risk recreational activities, low-risk non-essential businesses, some medical procedures, funerals with a 10-person maximum and a limited expansion of child care centres.
