Beauty Business Marketing During COVID-19

Posted: 29 Apr 2020 02:00 AM PDT

beauty business marketing during covid-19Marketing your beauty business is still essential even though you may not be servicing clients during the COVID-19 shutdown. Use this downtime to market your business and continue to nurture relationships with your clients.

If you continue to market your beauty business now, you'll be top of mind when businesses begin to open. You want your appointment books filled (as much as possible) when you're able to service clients again.

However, marketing under today's unique circumstances isn't business as usual, especially for the beauty industry. More people are turning to online channels to stay connected during this isolating time.

People are paying attention so be mindful of your attitude and behavior during COVID-19 as this becomes your marketing message.

Your clients or potential clients are watching — more than ever. Everything you do in the virtual world counts. What you say and do on social channels during this current state is a reflection of your brand value

COVID-19 will change how we conduct business going forward and everything you do and say now will have an impact on your practice. How are you showing up? Are you a calm, positive leader or an alarmist? What does your marketing message say about you?

How To Market Your Business During COVID-19

Your marketing message is key during COVID-19.

During this uncertain and stressful time, it's important to speak to your clients' emotional needs. Your marketing campaigns and messages should be sensitive to what your audience may be going through.

You may have had marketing campaigns scheduled before the Coronavirus hit. Put them on hold and speak to the situation at hand. For example, we had to shift and pivot our marketing efforts on upcoming webinars, promotions, and blogs.

As you shift your marketing efforts, pay attention to the sentiment in your community, and remain compassionate in your posts. Remember that you're a leader in your business and for your clients. As people are feeling vulnerable, it's time to step up and be the voice of reason for your clients. Be calm and stay positive — calm is the new contagion!

Since most people are connecting online, use this opportunity to leverage social media and other digital marketing channels to cultivate trust and strengthen relationships with your audience.

Post content that resonates with your followers — for example, many are homeschooling their children during this shutdown. If you're in the same boat, you can build rapport by sharing your own experience or relevant resources to establish a common ground.

Also, check-in with your clients individually. You have the time and they would love to hear from you. Most estheticians are very close to their clients so it isn't "just a business" relationship.

We have developed true friendships so it wouldn't be unnatural to pick up the phone to see how your clients are doing during this pandemic. We are all going a little stir-crazy.

Meanwhile, estheticians and spa owners are exploring new ways to generate income without physically seeing clients. Many offer retail products or modalities to their clients virtually. This will allow you to continue to help your clients achieve their skin goals and maintain your relationships.

If you need guidance or are unsure what to do during COVID-19, I have created an Esthetician Survival checklist here.

How To Remain Calm And Solution-Oriented During COVID-19

Posted: 22 Apr 2020 02:00 AM PDT

how to remain calm during covid-19 for estheticians

Calm is not a word used to describe how most people are feeling during COVID-19 effects. This is our first pandemic in our lifetime and many of us are out of sorts — being affected by panic, fear, and uncertainty.

"Anxiety is one of the most contagious emotions — that's why it always takes down groups of people, not just individuals." –Brene Brown

Calm is also contagious. Staying calm will allow you to make better decisions and come up with creative solutions.

Estheticians already know how to create calm states in the treatment room for clients. During COVID-19, we need to create this state of being for ourselves.

Why is it so important to stay calm during uncertain times?

As entrepreneurs and beauty business owners, we need the ability to think outside the box during times of crisis. You must be aware of your own box before you can step outside.

For most of us, this box is the way you think or operate your business when things are running smoothly. During COVID-19, we're forced to act differently if we want to thrive.

We need to get creative. Yet, we cannot tap into our creativity if we are stressed or anxious.

Stay calm by doing things that soothe your soul if you feel anxious or scared during the COVID-19 uncertainty. It could be as simple as taking a break from the media.

You may also find going for walks, connecting with nature, meditating, or playing games with family members helpful.

When you're calm, you can re-focus on your business and come up with creative solutions to continue servicing your clients and generating revenue. Keep your same goals in mind, only allow a shift in your thinking.

Discovering New Solutions During COVID-19

Here are a few things you can do right away to move your business forward during COVID-19:

Stay in Touch with Your Clients

Since your clients can't get in-person appointments with you, it's important to remain in contact no matter what. Your clients want to hear from you and this is the time to show that you care!

The form of communication isn't important. What's important is to communicate in a way that meets the needs of each one of your clients. For example, some estheticians are talking directly to their clients over the phone, while others are using text or Instagram DM to connect.

Offer Retail During COVID-19

Support your clients by offering personalized home care recommendations. This is of high value to your clients and also allows you to continue to nurture your relationships.

Many estheticians have put together "Stay At Home Care" kits, to drop in the mail or deliver to client homes. It's also heart-warming to see that many professional skincare companies have stepped up to offer drop-shipping service.

Establish Expert Positioning with Content Marketing

With the extra time available, you can publish high-quality content and improve your website's SEO so that more potential clients can find you. Superior content helps position you as a trusted expert while delivering value to your audience.

We started a "Blog Challenge" in the Esthetician Inner Circle and our members are publishing one blog per month — and loving it! They're following our "Content Marketing Strategy" format and building a presence in their communities and beyond.

Book Future Appointments

Be proactive and start booking clients for the coming months. Having appointments lined up can give you the much-needed momentum when you re-open your business. The worst-case scenario is that you need to reschedule.

You can also create special offers and presell packages for clients to redeem when things open again.

Offer Skincare Webinars or Videos

Video has never been more popular and it offers a great way to engage your audience. You can also use videos and webinars to build a virtual client base outside of your city and add new revenue streams to your business. Introduce online consultations and create an online store.

Webinars have been used by many professionals to educate clients and increase sales. Webinars are a great way to accelerate the "like, know, and trust" factor — which can be used at any point to gain additional sales in your business.

how to monetize your webinar with confidence esthetician masterclassIf you want to learn how you can conduct a successful webinar, we have a step-by-step training in the Esthetician Inner Circle on "How To Monetize A Webinar With Confidence." This training comes complete with email templates and a checklist.

Remain Calm And Keep The Faith

This has been a challenging time for all of us and I do feel it's important to remain calm and keep the faith. Use this opportunity to explore different ways to run your business and service clients.

The lessons we learn from COVID-19 will demonstrate how we grow creatively and strategically in the future.

Your May-June Yoga Horoscope

Posted: 02 May 2020 09:14 AM PDT

The stars may hold the key to how you serve in the world. Find your sign and chart your course for the next two months.

When you turn toward the things that fill you with a sense of purpose, you become a channel for more of the same. Since the sun represents your essential Self, the sign it was in on the day you were born can guide you toward living your purpose. Here's a glimpse into what's in the stars for you during May and June.

ARIES (March 21–April 19)

Embody the mark you wish to make on the world. Pinpoint the habits that undermine you, and leave anything that drains or distracts you behind. Whether that means developing better boundaries or learning to be more direct about your needs and beliefs, you'll have opportunities to clarify your messages.

TAURUS (April 20–May 20)

Get serious about your long-term goals. Wanting to achieve something is not enough to get you there. The next 40 days challenge you to review your relationship to your
talents, assets, and resources. How you spend your hard-earned income comes under inspection, but so too does how you make it.

GEMINI (May 21–June 20)

There's a heavy emphasis on the baggage you need to set down—and a need to forge a deeper relationship with yourself. The more structures you embrace that support your mental, physical, and emotional self, the better. Pay attention to what you choose to prioritize in relationships and why.

LIBRA (September 21–October 20)

Review where you're going and how you plan to get there. The most valuable aspect of any journey is what it helps you understand about yourself. You long for meaning and are willing to risk your comfort for it. Soon you'll reevaluate the quality of your connections and the agreements that keep you together.

SCORPIO (October 21–November 20)

What you're responsible for and what others need to carry on their own come into focus. Beginning in May, contracts are rethought, renewed, or released. Some part of your heart needs to be retrieved from an old relationship, an investment that's expired, or a deal gone wrong. It will soon make itself known.

SAGITTARIUS (November21–December 20)

To accomplish your goals, you need an accom-plice, and it appears many will come your way. Learning whom to go steady with and whom to keep in the friend zone is essential in romance and lifesaving in business. By May, you'll notice some of your agreements need updates if you want to build the kind of prosperity you desire.

CANCER (June 21–July 20)

During the next two months, you'll be inclined to focus on behind-the-scenes projects and aspects of your life far from the public eye. Your ability to be a productive Wizard of your own Oz makes all the difference in what the world receives from you—and prepares you for the remainder of the year when you'll burn brightly.

Watch The Best Yoga Pose to Unleash the Power of Your Zodiac Sign

LEO (July 21–August 20)

Much magic can be made with others when you're clear about what you can bring and what you can't or don't want to offer. Now is a perfect time to gain the courage to be as honest as possible and to allow the lessons you learn through friendships to help you deepen your relationship with yourself.

VIRGO (August 21–September 20)

Beginning in May, the focus lands squarely on your career path. There is both a surge in desire to accomplish big things as well as a need to review your relationship to your professional life. The desire for beauty, connection, and getting your needs met—both at work and in your home life—will be prominent.

CAPRICORN (December 21–January 20)

You are encouraged to review your relationship to your work projects, routines, and rituals now. Professional connections get a thorough investigation and any interpersonal dynamics that may need adjustments become increasingly louder until you listen to them. It's time to master the art of being on your own side.

AQUARIUS ( January 21–February 20)

The emphasis for May and June is on
play, creativity, and romantic entanglements. The planets demand that you thoroughly investigate all the ways in which you are using your creative energy. Your appetite for making things is maximized and being selective is key to producing great works of art.

PISCES (February 21–March 20)

Do a little nesting. Reorganize your closets, replant your favorite green friends, and root down into domestic bliss. In order do that, however, you'll need to clear out a little space for yourself. You are in need of a safe place to land right now and it's up to you to give that to yourself—no matter what others may ask of you.

Hello, I'm not a professional and I have a question... I wanna give better massages to my SO, but I feel my tendinitis gets in the way. (more info in the comments)

Posted: 01 May 2020 01:30 PM PDT

I like giving massages, my SO loves them, so I wanna improve technique and do it for longer periods of time.
My problem, though, is that I have tendinitis (from playing bass, crafts, sewing, etc), after some 20min I feel my wrists hurting quite a lot.
My question is: is there something I can do to improve my technique so I don't put so much stress on my wrists? Is there something I can to do for my tendinitis (I have been doing some exercises to help, but some days it just hurts no matter what)?

Cheers!

I sent my resume two days ago in responce to an add posted by them a day earlier. How long should I wait before calling?

I'm having thoughts of going anyway now because of what he has been doing. He openly admitted it and said that they "use hand sanitizer so it's okay". They do constantly disinfect surfaces and wear masks, but I just don't know if i'm okay with that.

Finding out that he's going already makes me think that I might as well go too because he's not changing his mind to not go. Yes, I already thought about this at the angle of, "what if everyone else did this".

How to Prepare for Meditation

Ben Decker Shows how to prepare for Meditation

Ben Decker Shows how to prepare for Meditation

We Can Prepare for Meditation to Support our Practice

In today's world, amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday pressures and the nonstop digital universe, the idea of a regular meditation practice can seem daunting or even impossible. Let this be easy. Be gentle with yourself. Allow this to be part of how you prepare for meditation.

Set yourself up for success by preparing a sacred space to set the tone for your practice, and it's helpful to establish some level of consistency. For some, that means taking time during their commute to meditate and journal. For others, that means sitting on the back porch early in the morning or meditating for a few minutes on the couch. Still others will have a sacred corner with an altar, a few candles, an image of Christ and a place to store your journal. Find a comfortable place, where you have enough privacy to go inward and are unlikely to be interrupted.

While a dedicated place to hold your practice can be very helpful, it is actually not necessary. As children of God, we are walking portals to the Divine, and the Kingdom of Heaven is within. Through us, the Spirit moved through the Earth, and an important part of the journey of individual spiritual development is learning to create a sacred path with our faith and reverence.

People all over the world choose to meditate in many ways, following a wide variety of recommendations. You may choose to sit cross-legged for your meditation or recline in your favorite chair. Some meditations ask you to hold your hands against your heart. Others will suggest holding your hands open in your lap or opening your eyes.

Ben Decker in Meditation

Relax and Focus on the Meditation

The most important thing is to be comfortable, awake, and relaxed. If that means meditating cross-legged on a cushion with your hands in a yogic mudra, or posture, so be it, but it's not at all necessary. Regardless of your exact, posture, the goal is to be focused on the meditation itself.

The brief time for your practice should be dedicated solely to your meditation. It is not the time to solve all of your problems. The miracle of the meditation often happens afterward, out in the world, while living our lives.

Here’s how Henkel is Supporting Salon Professionals during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic

Posted: 01 May 2020 06:00 AM PDT

As salons and beauty professionals continue to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, Henkel is stepping up to provide their support.

The company is donating $200,000 to the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) COVID-19 Relief Fund, which is designed to help licensed and out-of-work beauty professionals affected by the virus.

"Hairdressers are at the heart of what we do. This is a time to come together to show our support and positively impact our hairdresser community," says Stefan Mund, regional head of Henkel Beauty Care Hair Professional North America. "We want to do our part to help salon professionals to get back to work successfully."

Henkel's Beauty Care division is also donating money and more than 200,000 units of hair products to other non-profit organizations, such as Beauty Changes Lives, Dress for Success, and Project Beauty Share. They've also established flexible payment agreements with hairdressers to help those facing financial hardship.

All of these charitable acts are part of Henkel's global solidarity program, which launched at the end of March and was created to support employees, customers and communities majorly affected by the pandemic.

In addition, the company has donated $2 million euros to the World Health Organization and United Nations foundations to support research, plus more than five million units of personal and household hygiene products to those in need. They've also shifted their production facilities to produce disinfectants for public institutions.

Creating Picture-Perfect Hair With Kirsten Klontz

Posted: 01 May 2020 06:00 AM PDT

On the heels of working backstage at London and Milan fashion weeks, we caught up with Canadian hairstylist Kirsten Klontz to chat about her journey into the exciting, yet unexpected world of editorial styling.

As a hairstylist originally from Edmonton, Alberta, how did you get your start?

When I was working at Mousy Browns, [a salon in Edmonton], we were a small team and really focused on education. We worked with Bumble and Bumble, which would sponsor so many shows at New York Fashion Week. They didn't have enough hairstylists to work backstage, so I travelled to get onto their team. I was 24 at the time, and when I did my first season it was a big moment for me. It really inspired me to want to focus my career on fashion and session hairstyling.

From there, I worked on advertising campaigns. I travelled to Dubai and started working for Chanel and Louis Vuitton. I loved it; I really fell in love with the business. It's nice to see how hairstyling translates in the editorial and commercial world. Then, I moved to London and worked in the U.K. for two years.

What do you enjoy most about working at Fashion Week?

I enjoy the creative collaboration; I enjoy working with others. There are models, celebrities, and you're working with other incredibly talented hairstylists. You have to work together, and I really enjoy the team aspect of it.

I also enjoy how the looks are translated into real life. A lot of the looks are exaggerated, so you need to be able to see that and find a way to deliver it to the client.

You also do a lot of editorial work for magazines. How does that compare to working at Fashion Week?

It's always a collaboration, but hair is just one piece of the puzzle. There are makeup artists, wardrobe stylists, art directors—they're all involved, so all those things have to be taken into consideration. I really like it and it's challenging. Sometimes I walk in with an idea ahead of time, but some people might give a different take or direction, so I have to think outside the box. I view hair as a texture or a fabric that you work with, and something that you can change and alter. So it's just looking at it in a different way; as a different art form.

What advice do you have for people interested in doing more editorial work?

Education! I've apprenticed and assisted under some of the best hairstylists in the world, including Malcolm Edwards, and have taken courses for styling from distributors. There are all these different online courses you can take from different brands, so that is essential. You need to step out of your comfort zone and learn techniques to really get ahead or set yourself apart. I spent years investing in myself that way.

You recently started working as an ambassador for Hot Tools. Why was this partnership a good fit for you?

I've used Hot Tools throughout my entire career. When I moved overseas, I didn't have the money to buy a whole new tool kit with different adapters. I brought my [North American] voltage set to Dubai and used them there. I could plug them in every time and the heat was consistent, so I would get great results. I had them on me for my very first Vogue shoot six or seven years ago. It's something I will never forget because I was so nervous that day. Without a doubt, it was the most important shoot I'd done in my entire career. I knew I wouldn't have any problems that day, and when you're able to deliver and are confident with what you're using, it makes a huge difference.
